Look, this movie is the definition of a hollywood blockbuster - so expect nothing in depth and you will come away having had a good laugh at some solid action and honestly very funny asides - with a surprisingly cohesive cast of famous faces. I mean, never would have thought Charlie Sheen would make a passable Aramis, but somehow it is a great time. Just...turn off your brain and enjoy the ride.

Loosely based on the novel of the same name, this movie stars Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland and Oliver Platt as the three musketeers and Chris O'Donnell as D'Artagnan. The tone of this movie is not consistent. The story was changed to better target a younger audience and the fight sequences have a lot of slapstick humor. Yet there are too many sexual undertones, boob shots, and demeaning humor toward women in this movie. The villain is played by Tim Curry and he does a great job playing a bad guy. This villain is a creeper toward the women in the movie. Curry plays this well, but again not in agreement toward the lighter tone set up in other parts of the movie. The plot does drag in parts and didn't engage me during the entire film. If you are a fan of Curry, then I would recommend this movie. Otherwise skip it.

I can't believe some of the reviews for this movie. I have loved this movie since I was a kid. It's got humour, and it's got action. To me it is the quintessential Three Musketeers movie. My kids recently watched it and were laughing and jumping out of their seats in certain scenes. Rebecca De Mornay is perfect as the mysterious Milady De Winter. My son liked Kiefer Sutherland as Athos, and I liked Oliver Platt as Porthos - so funny! This is one of Tim Curry's best roles as the evil Cardinal Richelieu - sometimes he is tongue in cheek and sometimes downright cold.

A very good movie for kids. Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, and Oliver Platt are good as the 3 musketeers. Overall a movie of 11 and under would enjoy it the most. 8/10

Prior to setting about watching 9 Musketeer/Iron Mask movies I looked at what I was getting into and was most excited for this one as I love star-filled casts and this one had that in spades as all of the Musketeer trio were noteworthy and the villain is one of my favorite actors ever. The problem is that prior to viewing this, one of the most recent Musketeer movies I'd seen was the outrageously good '73 version, whose cast wasn't quite so starry but whose movie quality just runs circles around this one, even with its superior villain. I very much liked that they strayed from the source material a bit as I had watched previous direct adaptations enough to where this one would likely have felt stale otherwise. They made good use of their budget with extensive costumes & period set pieces in addition to fairly realistic explosions and well-shot chase scenes. Overall I found this to be a well-rounded viewing experienced that lacked any areas of true greatness.

This is basically Disney's adaptation of Young Guns at its heart. If you suspend all belief, however, it can be entertaining. Tim Curry puts out the best performance in this movie hands down as the evil Cardinal Richelieu, and Rebecca De Mornay does a serviceable job as the Countess de Winter. Keifer Sutherland does show some requisite bravado as Athos, which will be necessary for the role he will eventually play in 24. Oliver Platt was pretty funny at times as Porthos. Keep in mind that you do have to forgive a little bit of corniness to appreciate this movie. Charlie Sheen is in a weird place for me as Aramis. I feel like Young Guns got him this role. Now to our young Musketeer hopeful, Chris O'Donnell. Some people don't like him in this movie. I think that for the part he was given, he played the part very well. I just can't stand how the role of D'Artagnan was dictated on paper. I do think Chris is a good actor, having seen his work in other projects like NCIS: Los Angeles and Batman Forever, as well as others. Other than that, there's not much substance to this movie. Even the All For Love hit song, performed by three heavy hitter artists in Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting, which is a song I love, can't do enough to make this movie great.

This Disney adventure movie was really good. Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, Oliver Platt, Tim Curry, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. The plot to the movie was entertaining, action-packed, and thrilling. It's a great adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' best novel. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see for an entire family.

What's more overdone? The gratuitous cleavage shots or the catchphrase? I did enjoy 'The Three Musketeers' - but boy is there a load of cleavage shoved in your face. The famous Musketeer phrase is also said a lot. This film is a little bit of a weird one, in terms of how I feel about it. It's clearly enjoyable but I wasn't sure if it deserves the step above rating that I've given, by the end I think it just about gets there. I like the plot, the locations and pacing, but it took a relative while for the cast to grow on me. Chris O'Donnell (D'Artagnan) and Oliver Platt (Porthos) would be my standouts, I liked both of them pretty much from the beginning; it's my first time seeing O'Donnell, away from his 'Batman' appearances, though have seen Platt a number of times. Charlie Sheen (Aramis) and Kiefer Sutherland (Athos) are the ones who don't work amazingly in my opinion. I don't love their acting styles here, while I didn't sense enough chemistry between the two - and Platt, for that matter. Tim Curry, meanwhile, is always hit-and-miss to me - not helped by the fact that 'Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties' is my biggest memory of him, I'm constantly hearing Prince XII whenever he talks - my apologies, Mr. Curry. Lastly for the cast, it's also interesting (for me) seeing Paul McGann involved - I've very recently become aware of him through television's 'Luther'. Funny ol' world. Sorry for the few tangents there. My final thoughts on this film: It's entertaining. Worth a watch.

Enjoyable adaptation of the Alexander DeMass's classic book, with a fun cast and mostly solid direction. The actors are game across the board, with Tim Curry naturally excellent as the villainous Cardinal Richelieu while Oliver Platt steals every scene as the fun loving protests. Behind the camera, director Stephen Herek delivers a solid adventure film that is some what faithful but more fun. It does suffer from being a bit over-stuffed, with too many characters and subplots (more than a few romances feel rushed). However, for Disney Plus subscribers, a fun watch all-around.
